Prison Writing
Prison Creative Writing Program
PEN New England’s Freedom to Write Committee is seeking volunteer teachers for our Prison Creative Writing Program, which serves a men’s medium-security facility and a women’s pre-release facility, both about an hour away from Boston.
Each workshop will cover either poetry, fiction or creative non-fiction. You can opt to teach in one genre only, or all three.
The prisoners are always enthusiastic and grateful and often very talented. The experience is gratifying and educational, the results are tangible, and you’ll teach with many other great people. Writers of all levels are welcome!
Interested? Curious? The next information session for new volunteers will be held soon (stay tuned!). Come learn more about sharing your expertise and passion for writing with people who need it. And meet new colleagues who share a belief in the power of the written word.
****If you have already volunteered in years past and would like to sign up for the new season, please let us know!
